About the Credit Cards Payoff Calculator

This calculator estimates how long it may take to pay off multiple credit cards using a monthly payoff budget. It supports an avalanche strategy, which prioritizes the highest APR debt first, and a snowball strategy, which prioritizes the smallest balance first.

Debt avalanche: The avalanche method generally reduces interest by sending extra money to the highest-rate card while keeping minimum payments active on the rest.

Multiple cards

Enter balances, minimum payments, and APRs for up to four cards. Unused cards can remain at zero.

Monthly budget

The monthly budget is the amount applied toward credit card repayment. If it is below total minimum payments, the payoff schedule can fail.

Interest assumptions

The model assumes APRs and minimum payments remain unchanged and no new charges are added unless entered.

How to use this calculator

Enter each card balance, APR, minimum payment, monthly repayment budget, and payoff strategy. Review payoff time, total interest, total paid, and the month-by-month payoff schedule.

⚠ Disclaimer: This is an educational payoff estimate. Credit card issuers may change APRs, minimum payment formulas, fees, and promotional terms. The fastest safe payoff plan depends on your budget and credit account terms.

Credit Cards Payoff Calculator FAQ

Common questions about inputs, assumptions, outputs, schedules, and limitations.

What does the Credit Cards Payoff Calculator do?

It estimates payoff time, total interest, total paid, and a monthly balance schedule for multiple credit cards.

What is the debt avalanche method?

The debt avalanche method sends extra payments to the highest-interest card first while maintaining required minimum payments on other cards.

What is the debt snowball method?

The debt snowball method sends extra payments to the smallest balance first, which can help motivation even when it may cost more interest.

What happens if my budget is below the total minimum payments?

The schedule may not pay off the cards because the available budget is not enough to cover minimum payments and accruing interest.

Does this include new card purchases?

Only if you enter a new monthly charges amount. Otherwise it assumes no new charges are added.
