About this calculator

The currency converter helps you quickly estimate how much one currency is worth in another. Enter an amount, choose the currency you want to convert from, select the target currency, and the calculator instantly returns the converted amount using a free live exchange-rate source. This makes it useful for travel planning, international shopping, invoicing, subscriptions, investing research, and everyday budgeting.

Exchange rates represent the relative value of one currency compared with another. For example, if 1 US dollar equals 0.92 euros, then 100 US dollars converts to about 92 euros. Currency values move over time because of interest rates, inflation, central bank policy, trade flows, market demand, geopolitical events, and investor sentiment.

How the conversion works

The basic formula is:

Converted amount = amount × exchange rate

If the live rate from USD to EUR is 0.9184, then:

100 USD × 0.9184 = 91.84 EUR

Most exchange-rate APIs provide a base currency and a list of rates relative to that base. This page requests live rates from a free public source and updates the result in your browser without requiring an account.

Important notes about exchange rates

The calculator shows a reference conversion rate, which is excellent for planning and estimation. However, the exact amount you pay or receive in real life may differ because banks, card issuers, payment processors, and money-transfer services often apply additional spreads, commissions, or foreign transaction fees.

Some services also use delayed or provider-specific rates. If you need a final payment amount for a transfer, purchase, or settlement, confirm the exact rate and fee structure with the service provider handling the transaction.

Worked examples

Example 1: Travel.
Suppose a hotel room costs 250 EUR and the EUR → USD rate is 1.09. Then 250 × 1.09 = 272.50 USD. That helps you estimate your travel budget in advance.

Example 2: Shopping.
If a product costs 8,000 JPY and the JPY → GBP rate is 0.0052, the price is about 41.60 GBP.

Example 3: Business invoice.
If you invoice a client for 1,500 GBP and want the amount in CAD at 1 GBP = 1.72 CAD, then 1,500 × 1.72 = 2,580 CAD.
