About the Statistics Calculator

A statistics calculator turns a list of numbers into the key summary measures: mean, median, mode, range, standard deviation, quartiles, and more. Paste or type your data separated by commas or spaces.

How it works

The mean is the sum divided by the count; the median is the middle value; the mode is the most frequent value. Sample standard deviation measures spread around the mean using n − 1 in the denominator.

Reading the result

The bar chart shows the five-number summary — minimum, lower quartile, median, upper quartile, and maximum — giving a quick picture of your data’s spread.

Note: Calculations run instantly in your browser and use exact mathematical formulas. For very large numbers, results are shown to standard floating-point precision.

FAQ

What is the difference between mean and median?

The mean is the average; the median is the middle value. The median is more robust to outliers, which can drag the mean up or down.

Sample vs population standard deviation?

This uses the sample standard deviation (dividing by n − 1), appropriate when your data is a sample of a larger group. Population SD divides by n.

What are quartiles?

Values that split sorted data into four equal parts. Q1 is the 25th percentile, the median is the 50th, and Q3 is the 75th.
